Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness Education
For Therapists, Coaches, and Wellness Practitioners
The benefits of mindfulness and meditation are widely discussed, and for good reason. Research and lived experience both point to their potential to support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and greater self-awareness. In many cases, mindfulness practices can even be supportive for people with a history of trauma or PTSD when offered in appropriate and thoughtful ways.
However, most professionals have never been educated on how mindfulness interacts with trauma or what can happen when well-intentioned practices unintentionally overwhelm the nervous system, potentially activating distressing or retraumatizing experiences.
This program introduces the foundations of trauma-sensitive mindfulness, giving practitioners a deeper understanding of how mindfulness practices can be offered more safely and responsibly.
The goal isn’t to turn clinicians into meditation teachers. It’s to help people who already work with others better understand how mindfulness affects the nervous system, trauma responses, and personal agency.
Participants will walk away with a clearer understanding of:
• Why mindfulness can sometimes activate trauma responses
• How to recognize when a practice may be overwhelming for someone
• Language and framing that supports agency and choice
• Practical adjustments that make mindfulness practices safer and more accessible
• The role of pacing, consent, and invitational language in mindfulness spaces
When Mindfulness Meets Trauma
This program is designed for professionals who already work with people and incorporate (or are curious about incorporating) mindfulness into their work, including:
• Therapists
• Coaches
• Yoga teachers
• Meditation teachers
• Wellness practitioners
• Group facilitators
• Educators and community leaders
If mindfulness is something you reference, recommend, or guide others through, understanding how it interacts with trauma is an important piece of the puzzle.
This training draws from established trauma-sensitive mindfulness frameworks, including the work of Dr. David Treleaven and other experts in the field, and is informed by formal meditation teacher certification and training in trauma-sensitive and trauma-informed mindfulness practices.
Who This is For
This training provides educational foundations in trauma-sensitive mindfulness for professionals who incorporate mindfulness into their work. Participants receive a certificate of completion for professional development records. This program does not provide clinical licensure, continuing education credits, or training in trauma therapy.
